What affects the price
Why two flights on the same route can cost differently
- The patient's condition and the level of care needed on board
- Specialist equipment such as a ventilator, ECMO or a neonatal incubator
- Aircraft type, flight distance and any fuel stops
- Landing and overflight permits
- Ground ambulances and the receiving hospital at each end
Questions
Air ambulance FAQs
When is an air ambulance needed instead of a commercial flight?
When the patient needs intensive care during travel, cannot sit or lie safely on a scheduled flight, or needs to move faster than airline approval allows. If a commercial stretcher flight is safe, we will tell you, as it usually costs much less.
How quickly can an air ambulance be arranged?
It depends on the location, permits and the patient's stability. We start planning the moment you call and give you a realistic timeline straight away.
Can a family member fly with the patient?
Often, yes, where space and safety allow. We confirm this when we plan the flight.
Is an air ambulance covered by insurance?
Many travel and health policies cover medically necessary air ambulance transfers. We liaise with your insurer on approval before the flight.
